It was so refreshing a romance, so uniquely presented and performed. Hats off to Anurag Kashyap and the actors. If Tapsee Pannu does not get the best actress award for this one, I don't know who should. She was simply brilliant in the movie.

They say you deserve your life partner, but then marriages are made in heaven too. All three characters are deeply complex and you often wonder if you are outdated, obsolete or beyond expiry date. It's a new world order where no holds are barred, marriage is not necessarily a commitment to honour, and one only cares about being selfish. There's no problem with going back to your old flame the very next day you return from your honeymoon. Marriage is a decaying institution.
Manmarziyaan is excruciatingly slow and refuses to proceed. It is also very drab and often repetitive. The music by Amit Trivedi is good but there are too many songs that hamper even the crawling pace. Vicky Kaushal is quite remarkable in a very different role, Taapsee Pannu is blatant, outspoken and almost natural. Abhishek Bachchan gets a great role and does justice too. But Anurag Kashyap's mashup of Shudh Desi Romance, Befikre and Two Moon Junction fails to engage. 4 STARS.

HD makes classic films look like telenovelas; it's good for sport and nothing else. Film idi i smotri. This movie is pure gold. That was the Hard Core SS... I know everyone is saying it but this IS the best war film ever. Dirlewanger was beaten to death by some Polish guards. Good fir him.

Scares me to think how close we are to this right now. Holy moly man, thanks for using Godspeed You Black Emperor! And even my favorite album. A truly profound look at the short period of time during which a young boy is forced to face horrible things in Soviet Union during WW2. A gripping, poetic vision, that has a personal edge to it, unlike most Hollywood war films.

I strongly disagree about this movie being a piece of art. Maybe the ending sequence, but that's about it. I was very disappointed by this film due to the high IMDb rating. It feels like the director wants to be Tarkovsky; but he isn't. Filled with flaws and clichés as well as being propagandistic and biased. Could have been much better. The intro is weak and all through the movie there is a lack of framing. Music could have been used in a much better way. The only really good thing I found was the camera movement which were pretty realistic and made the movie captivating at times. As a whole though, this movie is far from a masterpiece in my opinion. I believe there are much better Russian films and much better war films.

Det kræver robuste nerver at komme helskindet igennem filmen, men “Gå og se” er en kunstnerisk triumf og en essentiel historielektion om en lidet kendt periode. Filmen omhandler den godmodige teenager Florya, der forlader sin enlige mor og sine to lillesøstre for at bekæmpe nazisterne i Hviderusland anno 1943. Allerede på sin første dag i tjenesten konfronteres den unge knægt med krigens chokerende galskab, da han skældes ud, fordi han ikke likviderede sin øverstkommanderende, der glemte at sige lejrens kodeord højt. Florya bliver efterladt af sine soldaterkammerater, der ikke har megen tiltro til drengens evner. Men nazisterne nærmer sig med så megen hast, at der ikke går længe, før Florya står ansigt til ansigt med nazisterne og deres rædselsfulde gerninger. Klimov var sikker på, at ingen ville gide se hans ubehagelige værk, men den kompromisløse instruktør nægtede alligevel at censurere filmen for at gøre den mere letfordøjelig. Klimovs beundringsværdige vovemod er en af hovedårsagerne til, at “Gå og se” er endt som en af genrens mest tilbedte og berygtede værker. Men alt andet end en fuldkommen sandfærdig og troværdig afbildning af et af verdenshistoriens dystreste kapitler havde formentlig også været en anelse blasfemisk. Og hovedparten af “Gå og se” føles skræmmende autentisk. Kun et par malplacerede sekvenser og lidt søgt symbolik svækker midlertidigt filmens hypnotiske effekt, som blandt andet det intime kameraarbejde og psykedeliske, eksperimenterende lyddesign er med til at skabe. Æstetisk er “Gå og se” enormt raffineret, og man mærker tydeligt, at Klimov har ladet sig inspirere af sin legendariske landsfælle, Andrei Tarkovsky. Man må bestemt heller ikke undervurdere filmens historiske værdi. Langt hovedparten af de film, der omhandler den sidste verdenskrig, beretter om amerikanske og/eller britiske soldater, som bekriger horder af anonyme tyskere. Vi har gang på gang set de samme historiske vestlige episoder og karakterer blive skildret på det hvide lærred. Men hvor mange vidste, før de havde oplevet “Gå og se”, at nazisterne brændte 628 hviderussiske byer ned til grunden? Det er en forfærdelig kendsgerning, der slås fast i en vigtig og forfærdende film. Godt nok er filmen ikke helt så chokerende, som den var i 1985. Krigsfilm som Spielbergs “Schindlers liste” og “Saving Private Ryan” har rykket grænsen for, hvad biografpublikummet kan tolerere at se i mainstreamfilm om den begivenhedsrige periode. Men en af de talrige ting, der gør “Gå og se” så virkningsfuld og unik, er, at historien fortælles igennem øjnene på et barn. Et barn, der i begyndelsen ikke har nogen konkret idé om, hvilken ondskab, der eksisterer uden for hans idylliske landsby. Man siger, at det første, der går tabt i krig, er uskyld, og det standpunkt slås fast med syvtommersøm og bøjes i neon i “Gå og se”. Aleksei Kravchenko, der blot var 14 år gammel under optagelserne, er superb som Florya. Kravchenko blev blandt andet beskudt med ægte ammunition under produktionen, og Klimov var så hensynsfuld, at han forsøgte at få teenageren hypnotiseret, så skuespilleren ikke ville lide psykisk overlast grundet de ubehagelige optagelser. Florya mønstrer et uforglemmeligt portræt af et ungt menneske, der knækkes af krigens uhæmmede brutalitet. Under den berømte scene, hvor en efterhånden ugenkendelig Florya konfronterer et fotografi af Hitler, er det svært ikke at blive bevæget. Og Olga Mironova er hjerteskærende som pigen Glasha, der i en stor periode er Floryas eneste rejsekammerat på turen gennem helvede på jord. VideoPræsenteret i 4:3 full screen-format. Der optræder en del gryn og støj, og især scener, der indeholder røg eller tåge, ser meget komprimerede og snavsede ud. Edge-enhancement optræder heldigvis sjældent, og billedet er skarpt igennem størstedelen af filmen. Kontrasten er også nogenlunde, mens farvetemperaturen til tider vakler lidt. AudioProduktionens lydside er en af filmens vigtigste komponenter, og heldigvis er skivens russiske Dolby Digital 5. 1-lydspor særdeles effektivt igennem store dele af filmen. Til tider virker baghøjtalerne lidt for ivrige, og flere af panoreringerne er alt for åbenlyse. Men alle lydeffekterne og replikkerne kommer tydeligt igennem, og musikken overdøves heller aldrig. Hverken støj eller overstyring optræder, og LFE-kanalen udnyttes fornemt til at levere dyb rumlen, der skaber en slags ubehag, som kun gør filmen endnu mere virkningsfuld. Nogle vil måske foretrække at lægge øre til filmens oprindelige, russiske monospor, der også er inkluderet, og som lyder ganske hæderligt. EkstramaterialeDer er indspillet en kort introduktion til filmen med instruktøren Elem Klimov (21 min. ). Der er også inkluderet et interview med instruktøren (3 min. Klimov er en velformuleret og interessant fortæller, der beretter om alt fra filmens titel til mandens egne ubehagelige oplevelser under anden verdenskrig. Thomas Lennon plays the co-host of a TV shopping network, currently hawking a Confederate Army memorial pen; the inimitably nerdy Mark Proksch plays an expert on an Antiques Roadshow -like program who explains the suspiciously bizarre origins of ordinary-looking artifacts. We see aerobics classes, nightly news and cop shows. We sit in on a Bob Ross-style painting tutorial that gets less Bob Ross-like with each passing minute. Its host Joan (Kerri Kenney) doesn't only host Painting With Joan, but stranger programs, like the unsettling Sleeping With Joan, which is pretty much the opposite of the gently wholesome Joe Pera Talks You to Sleep. While Joan and others give things an air of drug-addled discomfort, some program snippets contain hints of a more clear-eyed world view. The perfunctory scripts of porn films we see are built not around hunky cable-repair guys or pizza-delivery dudes, but scientists researching global warming, or blonde lesbian aliens who are forced to navigate American attitudes toward illegal immigration. Stranger and more on-target is a current-events talk show whose guest starts expounding on "Tape Narcissism": a phenomenon of indiscriminate self-documentation she feels will lead its victims to psychosis. To the show's host, her predictions sound so hyperbolic as to be insane; to us, she's describing the age of social media. So it goes, with occasional clips in which Ralph documents bits of domestic discomfort he doesn't quite understand. Viewers who stick with the ADHD skit-like material will be divided about whether this familial theme ties things together satisfactorily — and about whether sticking to a single target, a la Between Two Ferns, makes more sense for those who would mine clunky idioms for laugh. For those on the fence, a detour into found-footage horror will only complicate the question.
